How long will it take for my request to be processed? It will usually take 6 to 8 weeks for your request to be processed assuming that you supply all the necessary information including satisfactory proof of claim.
Will interest be paid on Unclaimed Funds that are paid? No, however there is also no charge for Terasen Gas to investigate and process your claim, whether or not your claim is successful. (Terasen Gas is following legislative direction in the processing of unclaimed property claims. The Act does not require interest to be paid.)
Can I submit my Request Form via fax or e-mail? No. Terasen Gas requires an original, hard copy of the request form with your signature.
What types of items are maintained in Terasen Gas' Unclaimed Funds Database? The Unclaimed Property Act requires that a database be maintained for funds that:
Are for amounts greater than or equal to $50.00
Were issued July 1, 2000 or later
Have been returned undelivered OR have remained uncashed for specified a period of time.
Can I submit two requests on one Request Form? No. Only one request may be made on each Request Form. You may mail more than one Request Form in the same envelope but satisfactory documentary evidence must accompany each Request Form in order to be successfully processed.
Can I file a request on behalf of another person? You can file a request on behalf of another person provided you have legal authority to act on that person's behalf. You will be required to provide proof of authority, such as Power of Attorney, Representation Agreement, a Last Will and Testament identifying you as Executor of the Will or Heir to an Estate, or written authorization signed by that person acknowledging your authority to act, etc.
How do I request funds for my deceased relative? You must submit a completed Request Form with supporting documentation including:
Your name and current address
A copy of your deceased relative's birth certificate
Your relationship to the deceased owner
Documents proving you legally represent the estate, or are an heir to it
Documentation to prove that the deceased is the person identified in our records
Please note, if your request is approved, we will issue the cheque to "The Estate of…" (the deceased)
How do I request funds for a company or an organization? You must be a duly authorized director or an officer of a company or an organization to legitimately file a request for Unclaimed Funds. Submit a completed Request Form with supporting documentation including:
Your name and current address
Name of the company or organization
Legal documents certifying the capacity in which you are representing the organization and that you are authorized to act on its behalf
What happens if my request is denied? You will receive a letter advising you that your request has been denied, which you may appeal to Terasen Gas in writing.
What can I do if I do not agree with the denial of my request?

The date unclaimed and owner name, indicated on your original request
The date of your original request

Where can I find the Unclaimed Funds prior to July 1, 2000? Terasen Gas is fulfilling the requirements of the Unclaimed Property Act. The Act requires that funds issued July 1, 2000 and later, that are returned undelivered or that remain unclaimed after a given period of time, must be published in a database and made publicly available. There is no legal requirement for tracing funds issued prior to July 1, 2000 by Terasen Gas.
