Piped propane system
Terasen Gas Whistler Inc. operates a piped propane distribution system that serves over 2,200 residential and commercial customers in the Whistler area. Propane is transported to Whistler by railcar and tanker-truck and off-loaded at the company's two above-ground storage sites: Nesters Road, north of Whistler, and Function Junction in the south. The propane is vapourized at these locations and then distributed through underground gas lines to residences and commercial buildings.
Composition of piped propane rate
Your rate is comprised of two charges: a commodity charge and a basic monthly charge.
The commodity charge is considered a variable rate, which is designed to recover the variable cost of providing propane gas service. The commodity charge reflects the volatile nature of propane pricing from the supplier, plus the variable cost of delivering propane to the customer.
Terasen Gas has only one rate class in Whistler, and one rate applies to all customers regardless of the volume of energy consumed.
The basic monthly charge is designed to recover the fixed costs Terasen Gas incurs to provide service and ensure you have access to propane when you need it — 24 hours a day. This charge includes costs that Terasen Gas incurs regardless of how much propane is consumed, such as service lines, meter sets and meters, meter reading, billing and customer accounting costs.
