Natural gas vehicles
NGV grants
As an added incentive to switch to natural gas vehicles, Terasen Gas offers grants worth up to $10,000. (Total grant funds available per year are limited.)
A new alternative for fleets
Natural gas is increasingly being considered as an alternate transportation fuel choice due to rising oil prices, tougher emission standards and growing public demand for environmentally friendlier vehicles.
With more than six million used around the world, natural gas vehicles (NGV) are cleaner than and as safe as their gasoline and diesel counterparts. For this reason, NGVs have a viable role to play in keeping beautiful BC green.
Key benefits
- Better for the environment, with significantly lower CO2
(carbon dioxide), NOx (nitrogen oxide) and greenhouse gas emissions
- Lower fuel cost - 25 to 40 per cent less than the pump price for gasoline
- Lower maintenance costs - natural
gas burns cleaner so engine parts stay cleaner
- A natural resource, produced here in BC and elsewhere in Canada

Well suited for fleet use
Fleet use remains the largest market for natural gas vehicles as companies try to reduce fuel costs and lower emissions. For fleets that come home at night — such as transit and refuse fleets, natural gas creates a more attractive bottom line and a smaller environmental footprint.
Factors driving today's growth of natural gas vehicles
- Energy security
- Emissions regulations
- Incentives and grants
- Natural gas infrastructure
- Lower price of natural gas relative to oil
