SURREY, B.C. – Looking for a job that fits comfortably? The search just got easier. Starting today, Terasen Gas will post career opportunities on NationTalk, Canada's premier Aboriginal newswire and employment service. Job seekers can view the postings on nationtalk.ca, or visit the "Careers" section of terasengas.com.
"We recognize that NationTalk reaches a large Aboriginal audience," said Jan Marston, Vice President of Human Resources and Operations Governance, Terasen Gas. "Our commitment to hire local, talented employees extends to all communities across the province, and our initiative with NationTalk is another way we can reach out to the Aboriginal labour force."
Terasen Gas is committed to advancing the well-being of the communities we serve, and the company has developed an especially strong relationship with many First Nations communities. Last summer, youth from the Chemainus First Nation participated in Terasen Gas' first joint utility construction program, which helps prepare participants for careers in the utility construction industry.
The company has also looked to the Chemainus First Nation for support during the construction of our liquefied natural gas storage facility at Mt. Hayes, near Ladysmith, and the collaboration has been invaluable to the success of this project. Another opportunity for Terasen Gas to strengthen its partnerships with Aboriginal communities arose as we planned to extend our natural gas pipeline to the Resort Municipality of Whistler. Working closely with the Squamish Nation and Lil'wat First Nation throughout this project enabled Terasen Gas to establish agreements that would ensure training and other benefits for both communities.
"We believe it's important to participate in the growth of the communities where we live and work," said Marston. "This connection is an underlying philosophy that guides our business and we work hard to demonstrate this in the way we work every day."
