Terasen employees give a hand-up to Habitat for Humanity Kelowna
SURREY, B.C. – Terasen employees will bring comfort to future Habitat for Humanity homes in Kelowna on April 26 thanks to a $30,000 corporate contribution and volunteer efforts.
“Making people comfortable is what Terasen does every day,” comments Ruth Sulentich, community and aboriginal relations manager, Terasen Gas, Kelowna. “We’re enhancing the comfort of future homeowners through our donation of two high-efficiency natural gas furnaces and stoves and through our efforts to put the final landscaping touches on two housing units.”
Habitat for Humanity Kelowna has built 15 homes in the city since 1993, but now faces the challenge of having to secure property to continue the building process.
"Major donations from corporations like Terasen Gas are the only way this work can continue at a steady pace," says Brigitte Reimer, chairperson of the local Habitat Board. "We’re very excited about this venture – it fits perfectly into our concept of working together to achieve our goals and affirms our motto of ‘a hand-up, not a hand-out’."
On April 26, Terasen employees in Surrey and Victoria will also be volunteering in their communities. In Surrey, a $30,000 corporate contribution and the planting efforts of volunteers will give Holland Park a new oasis for people to enjoy – Terasen Garden. Meanwhile, Community Living Victoria receives the same contribution, as well as volunteer efforts to enhance safety features that will provide comfort for local residents in a group home.
Terasen Gas and its employees have long been active corporate citizens, giving their time generously to charitable causes and organizations.
