SURREY, B.C. – A community garden is coming to Surrey’s Holland Park on April 26 thanks to a $30,000 corporate contribution and the volunteer efforts of Terasen.
“Our employees are volunteering their time to plant Terasen Garden – an area that will serve the local community as an ideal location for recreation and relaxation,” said Amy Hennessy, Terasen Gas manager, community relations, Surrey. “The garden will feature plants that are native to the area. We’re excited to see the garden come to life, and make Holland Park an even more inviting space for our community.”
Holland Park, currently being redeveloped, is the City of Surrey’s first truly urban park. Located in a centre undergoing extensive growth, the park will be a green jewel for residents and visitors alike to enjoy. The park will also be the focal point for community celebrations.
"The City is very pleased to have partnered with Terasen in the creation of a spectacular new garden at Holland Park," said Councillor Linda Hepner, Chair of the Parks and Community Services Committee of Council. "Not only did Terasen provide $30,000 for materials for the project, but their staff is working closely with the City's horticulturists to carry out much of the planting of the new garden."
On April 26, Terasen employees in Kelowna and Victoria will also be volunteering in their communities. In Kelowna, a $30,000 corporate contribution and volunteer efforts will bring comfort to future Habitat for Humanity homes. Meanwhile, Community Living Victoria receives the same contribution, as well as volunteer efforts to enhance safety features for local residents in a group home.
Terasen and its employees have long been active corporate citizens, giving their time generously to charitable causes and organizations.
