Terasen volunteers pitch in to transform family fishing and camping location at Bleeker Lake
SURREY, B.C. – Watching a crackling campfire as the sun sets over Bleeker Lake or enjoying a lakeside barbeque with family and friends will be a much different experience now that more than 30 Terasen employees have completed a day-long transformation of the popular recreation area into an ideal family fishing and camping location.
Terasen employees volunteered Saturday, May 23, and provided a $30,000 corporate donation to the Kamloops and District Fish and Game Association, a registered charity, to help improve the facilities at the recreation site.
“The volunteerism of Terasen’s employees to physically get involved with the building of the recreation site has made it possible for our association to reach our goal of making Bleeker Lake a true family recreation area,” said Jim Woodward, President, Kamloops and District Fish and Game Association.
Bleeker Lake has been a popular day-use and overnight camping site for many years, but has been in need of improvements for some time. Volunteers spent the day building new picnic tables, washrooms, fire pits, campsites and cleaning-up the shoreline around the lake.
“A need in Kamloops was identified, our employees recognized that need and stepped up to the plate,” said Ruth Sulentich, Terasen Gas Community Relations Manager. “In fact, every employee in our Kamloops office volunteered to help out with this worthwhile cause.”
The Bleeker Lake Project is one of three Terasen Community Giving Day projects in B.C. In Nanaimo, Terasen volunteers spent the day at the Clay Tree Society landscaping, painting, renovating and repairing facilities. On Saturday, May 30, volunteers will assist at the Richmond Sharing Farm, planting seeds, herbs and fruit trees, improving soil and building garden beds, harvest tables and improving fencing around the farm. All three projects receive a $30,000 corporate donation from Terasen.
Terasen and its employees have long been active corporate citizens, giving back to the communities where they live and work through volunteerism and corporate donations.
