Terasen Gas employees donate toys to transition houses

December 21, 2007

SURREY - Terasen Gas employees played Santa delivering a “sleigh full” of toys to children who will spend the holidays in local transition houses.

“Terasen's employees overwhelming generosity with these toys brings smiles and laughter to the children who will be living here over the holidays," said Adele Wilson, Executive Director, Marguerite Dixon Transition Society.

During  a two-week toy drive, Terasen Gas employee volunteers collected presents including toys, gift cards and baskets for the children at Surrey’s Evergreen and Virginia Sam Transition Houses, Burnaby’s Marguerite Dixon House and Langley’s Ishtar House. In the spirit of the season, moms too, will find something from Santa under the tree.

This toy drive, Terasen’s third annual, was sponsored by Warm Hearts, the employee-run charitable foundation at Terasen Gas.

“Transition houses have a vital role in the community,” said Amy Hennessy, Warm Hearts chair. “It is especially gratifying to our employees to know that we can help these children have a happy holiday during an otherwise difficult time in their lives.”

The Warm Hearts Children’s Toy Drive began in 2005 and has helped transition houses in local communities including Abbotsford, Burnaby, Langley, Mission and Surrey.

“The generous donation enables families to start the new year in a happier place than when they started in our programs,” said Dina Lambright, Program Manager, OPTIONS: Services to Communities Society. “Last year we were overwhelmed with the generosity of the Warm Hearts team. We can’t thank you enough for all of the work that goes into sponsoring our clients,” she added.

Since its founding in 1994, Warm Hearts has raised more than $430,000 through employee donations and fundraisers for a variety of charities throughout the province.
