SURREY, B.C. – During this season of goodwill and joy, Terasen Gas employees delivered comfort in the form of toys and gifts to children spending their holidays in local transition homes.

“These toys and gifts bring smiles and laughter to the children who will be living here over the holidays," said Adele Wilson, Executive Director, Marguerite Dixon Transition Society. “I am continually amazed by the outpouring of kindness Terasen Gas employees show year after year.”

During a two-week toy drive, employee volunteers collected toys, gift cards and baskets for the children and women at Surrey’s Evergreen and Virginia Sam Transition Houses, Burnaby’s Marguerite Dixon House, Langley’s Ishtar House and Richmond’s Nova House.

"On behalf of all the staff at the transition houses, we want to thank Terasen Gas for their generous donation of gifts for the children and women and for making this time special during a difficult period in their lives,” said Deara Dirk, Program Manager, Evergreen and Virginia Sam Transition Houses.

This was the fourth annual toy drive, sponsored by Warm Hearts, the company’s employee-run charitable foundation. “We’re pleased to have a chance to make the holidays more pleasant for the families in these transition homes,” said Amy Hennessy, Warm Hearts chair. “Our employees volunteer time and money to give where we live throughout the year.”

The Warm Hearts Children’s Toy Drive began in 2005, and has helped transition homes in local communities including Abbotsford, Burnaby, Langley, Mission and Surrey. This year the Warm Hearts Committee expanded their efforts to include Richmond’s Nova House.

“It is thanks to all at Terasen Gas that the children at Nova Transition House will have presents under the tree this year. As the holidays approach, these generous and thoughtful donations will allow families to continue to move forward and celebrate together even in difficult times,” said Nancy Nguyen, Nova Transition House.

Through employee donations and fundraisers, Warm Hearts has donated close to $500,000 to charities throughout the province since its founding in 1994. Warm Hearts supports the many different needs in B.C. communities – from hospitals and hospices, to shelters and youth centres.
