Aboriginal relations

We are leaders in recognizing and building mutually beneficial working relationships with First Nations communities.

Terasen Gas has adopted a formal Statement of Aboriginal Principles.  We conduct business in a manner that respects the social, economic and cultural interests of First Nations communities.

This commitment has been demonstrated in our relationship with the Cowichan Tribes. For more than a decade we contracted with the Cowichan Tribes to provide pipeline and gas distribution installations on Vancouver Island.

Our dedication to Aboriginal partnerships is also at the heart of our relationship with the Squamish Nation and Lil'wat First Nation. We have agreements in place that ensure training and material supply from both communities as we extend our natural gas pipeline to the Resort Municipality of Whistler.

We're also interested in motivating Aboriginal youth, so we created a scholarship legacy program with the Okanagan Nation in Westbank to encourage post-secondary training in trades.

From helping preserve our First Nations' past to supporting tomorrow's Aboriginal leaders, we're proud to be a partner with Aboriginal communities around the province.
