Make an emergency kit
Here's a list of what you'll need for your emergency kit. Store enough supplies
for at least 72 hours.
For your home
- water: one gallon per person per day (a week's supply of water is preferable)
- water purification kit
- first aid kit, freshly stocked
- first aid book
- food can opener (non-electric)
- blankets or sleeping bags and warm clothes
- portable radio, flashlight and spare batteries
- extra pair of eyeglasses
- extra pair of house and car keys
- fire extinguisher: A-B-C type
- food, water and restraint (leash or carrier) for pets
- cash and change
- baby supplies: formula, bottle, pacifier, clothing, blankets, diaper wipes, disposable diapers, canned food and juices
- spare medical prescriptions
- list of important family information: physician numbers, style and serial number of medical devices such as pacemakers.
For your car
- portable radio, flashlight and spare batteries

- booster cables
- cash and change
- change of clothes, rain gear and sturdy footgear
- fire extinguisher

- bottled water and non-perishable foods such as granola bars, raisins and chocolate
